Bella Ramsey quits social media after relentless cyberbullying over their portrayal of Ellie in ‘The Last of Us’ series.

Bella Ramsey, the star of The Last of Us, has decided to call it quits on their social media accounts. And the reason? Cyberbullying from a vocal group of fans who didn’t like that they didn’t resemble Ellie from the original video game the series is based on.

The bullying came from nearly every platform — from Reddit to X to Instagram. In response to the online hate and negativity, Ramsey made the decision to deactivate their accounts to protect their mental health.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Ramsey shared that this was a long time coming:

“I always knew that I’d [deactivate social media] one day and never even really wanted to have social media in the first place.”

The Ellie actor also recently opened up about the challenges they faced during the filming of The Last of Us season one, when they were diagnosed with autism. Earlier this month, Ramsey revealed that season two will be much darker than the first.

The Last of Us season 2 is currently two episodes in, with the remaining five releasing weekly through May 25, 2025.
