Bella Ramsey Says Season 2 of 'The Last of Us' Gets Even Darker

Bella Ramsey teases darker scenes, secret props, and stunt training ahead of ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 premiere on HBO.
English actor Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie in The Last of Us, recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss the long-anticipated second season of the series, which premieres on Sunday, and what awaits their character, Ellie.
Talking to host Jimmy Fallon, Ramsey revealed they did most of their own stunts in Season 2, except for one shot. They trained for two months, including Brazilian jiu-jitsu and boxing.
Describing the Season 2 scripts, Ramsey shared that they cried while reading them—something they’ve never done before. They’re especially excited for the darker, more emotional scenes.
Ramsey also revealed they took one keepsake from the set of the first season—a bar of Irish Spring soap—because of how good it smelled. They also took something from the second season but chose to keep it a secret to avoid spoiling the plot.
Describing what awaits Ellie, Ramsey said the character is intense, dark, and full of unprocessed emotions that manifest in unhealthy ways.
The Last of Us Season 2 premieres on April 13, 2025, on HBO.
