BBC Brings Odessa Young and Jacob Elordi's 'The Narrow Road to the Deep North' to Life
Odessa Young and Jacob Elordi star in ‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North’, a WWII drama miniseries coming soon to the BBC.
Odessa Young and Jacob Elordi’s upcoming Australian drama miniseries, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, will grace our screens after all. It has just been announced that the BBC has finally acquired it!
The five-part miniseries is based on Richard Flanagan’s novel of the same name, which explores the horrors experienced by Australian prisoners of war who were forced to work on the Thai-Burma Death Railway during World War II. The story follows Dorrigo Evans (played by Elordi), a surgeon and war hero grappling with the traumas of war, his romantic entanglements, and the lasting scars of survival.
In the miniseries, Elordi portrays the younger version of Dorrigo Evans, while Ciarán Hinds takes on the role of the older Dorrigo. Odessa Young plays Amy Mulvaney, the young wife of Dorrigo’s uncle, with whom he begins a passionate love affair. Their profound connection continues to haunt Dorrigo even in his later years.
Alongside Elordi, Young, and Hinds, the series features an ensemble cast, including Olivia DeJonge, Heather Mitchell, Thomas Weatherall, and Simon Baker.
In 2018, Fremantle acquired the rights to adapt The Narrow Road to the Deep North into a TV series. Production was later passed to Curio Pictures, with Justin Kurzel directing and Shaun Grant penning the script. Filming commenced in November 2023 and concluded in March 2024.
Young has been keeping busy, recently spotted filming the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere. Meanwhile, a trailer for her upcoming film The Damned was recently released, with a premiere slated for January 3, 2025. Her next film, The Order, is set to debut in just a few days, on December 6.
