Ayo Edebiri’s directorial debut on ‘The Bear’ scores a DGA nod, capping her Golden Globe and Emmy triumphs.

The American actress-turned-director Ayo Edebiri is finally getting the recognition she deserves! Her directorial debut on the critically acclaimed series The Bear received a nomination from the Directors Guild of America.

Edebiri directed the sixth episode of the third season, titled Napkins. The episode explores the past of Tina, played by Liza Colón-Zayas, as she is laid off from her office job and struggles to find work. After breaking down at the Beef, Mikey (Jon Bernthal) offers her a job as a line cook, giving her new hope.

Speaking to Deadline about the episode, Edebiri said she cried when she read the script for the first time. Directing this moving installment earned her a nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series by the Directors Guild of America.

It seems that Edebiri’s work on The Bear is propelling her to stardom, with her recent Golden Globe win for her performance on the series, as well as her Primetime Emmy win last year—an award she’s nominated for again this year.
