Ayo Edebiri and A24 Are Reinventing Barney in the Strangest Way

Ayo Edebiri is set to write and possibly star in A24’s live-action Barney movie, produced by Daniel Kaluuya.
American actress Ayo Edebiri, known for her role in The Bear and recently Opus, is set to write and possibly star in the new live-action Barney movie from A24, produced by
Daniel Kaluuya, as reported by Deadline.
The film was first announced in 2019, but its plot remains a mystery. While Edebiri is also rumored to star in the movie, Kaluuya will only serve as the film’s producer.
Barney & Friends first aired in 1992 and ran for fourteen seasons before it ended in 2010. A revival of the series was announced in 2015 with a release date set for 2017, but it never saw the light of day.
The new live-action Barney adaptation is set to be more adult-oriented and surrealistic, as confirmed by Mattel executive Kevin McKeon in an interview with The New Yorker.
Recently, Edebiri has been trying new things, directing one episode of The Bear, and she also joined forces with indie pop singer Clairo to direct her music video for Terrapin.
