Emma Mackey stars in ‘Hot Milk,’ a film based on Deborah Levy’s novel, set to premiere at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival.

The British-French actress best known for her role in Sex Education, British-French actress Emma MackeyEmma Mackey, is gearing up for the premiere of her new movie, Hot Milk, which is set to debut at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival. And what better way to make the wait shorter than with a first look at the film?

Hot Milk is based on Deborah Levy’s novel of the same name and follows a young woman, Sofia, who takes her sick mother to Spain in search of a cure. As she cares for her mother, she begins to explore who she really is, what she wants, and how their complicated relationship affects her life.

The clip reveals Mackey’s Sofia standing near the house where she and her mother are staying, smoking a cigarette while her sick mother calls for her, complaining that she didn’t answer the phone. The scene then cuts to the two sitting on a bench at the beach, observing the people around them as her mother shares her thoughts about men these days.

Besides Mackey, the movie features Vicky Krieps as Ingrid, Fiona Shaw as Rose, Vincent Perez as Dr. Gomez, Yann Gael as Matthew, and Patsy Ferran at 32nd Annual Critics" Circle Theatre Awards at @SohoPlace, London on 17 April, 2023Patsy Ferran in an undisclosed role. Hot Milk marks Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s directorial debut, in addition to her role as the film’s screenwriter.

Hot Milk premieres on February 14, 2025, at the Berlin International Film Festival.
