Doechii Becomes Variety’s 2024 Hip-Hop Disruptor

In the series of slides, Doechii shared a speech she gave at the event that took place on December 7th. She said:

“Hip-hop is the most powerful vessel to tell your story, especially the stories that might not get heard immediately or be understood immediately…”

She emphasized that there are so many talented hip-hop artists out there trying to carve their path into the industry, but often, these stories go unheard.

However, Doechii believes that hard work and confidence in one’s authenticity will always shine through.

Just before the Variety event, Doechii delivered a powerful performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Beyond her incredible musical delivery, the rapper performed a highly avant-garde dance alongside two dancers who were connected to her braids.

But that’s not all—NPR Music released Doechii’s Tiny Desk concert, where she went absolutely wild, bending genres, shifting tempos, and delivering an electrifying energy worthy of a massive stage.

At minute 9:30, she starts rapping at lightning speed, showcasing a level of precision and sharpness that hasn’t been seen in a long time.

To conclude, the newly earned Variety award feels like a natural progression in Doechii’s career.

Judging by these performances alone, we can confidently say that Doechii is on track to becoming a legendary hip-hop artist.
