Combster's NYFW Designer Spotlight: Ashlynn Park
Ashlynn Park combines traditional Japanese pattern-making techniques with Western draping styles to create minimalist yet impactful designs.
Founded in 2020, Ashlynn Park’s eponymous label, ASHLYN, has quickly garnered attention for its modern tailoring and commitment to sustainable practices.
Under Park’s visionary leadership, the brand challenges the norms of overproduction and overconsumption by embracing a zero-waste philosophy.
In 2022, the designer was named an LVMH Prize Finalist and won the Samsung Fashion & Design Fund Prize, highlighting her promising presence in the fashion world. Her work has also been featured in prestigious programs such as Matches Fashion Innovator and Bergdorf Goodman Radar.
A notable highlight of her career came in 2021 when The Metropolitan Museum of Art invited her to showcase her gown, Quinn, in the “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” exhibition. Several of her designs, including a zero-waste piece, are now part of the museum’s permanent collection.
Park’s journey in fashion spans over a decade and two continents, with training in Seoul and Tokyo. After winning Japan’s SO-EN Award in 2008, she joined Yohji Yamamoto as a Fashion Designer and Pattern Maker.
In 2011 she joined Alexander Wang’s creative team, where she refined her skills on runway collections and collaborated with high-profile artists like Beyoncé and Rihanna.
More recently, she worked with Raf Simons at Calvin Klein, further shaping her unique design perspective. Today, her intentional and eco-conscious approach ensures that each piece embodies powerful femininity and timeless elegance.
Ashlynn Park will be presenting at the New York Fashion Week on Friday, Feb 7.
