Thomasin McKenzie is stepping into the shoes of a medical pioneer in the upcoming film Joy. This true-life drama, set to make its world debut at the 68th BFI London Film Festival, chronicles the birth of the world’s first “test-tube baby” through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).
McKenzie portrays Jean Purdy, a nurse who, alongside James Norton as a visionary scientist and Bill Nighy as an innovative surgeon, helped usher in this revolutionary scientific breakthrough.
Joy will first grace the screen on October 15 at London’s Southbank Centre, with additional UK screenings to follow. Mark your calendars for November 15 for the UK theatrical release, and November 22 for its global Netflix debut.
