Callum Kerr talks preparing for Smoker in ‘One Piece’ season 2, watching the anime, and balancing fatherhood.

Scottish actor and model Callum Kerr, who will be playing Smoker in the second season of the live-action One Piece, recently appeared on The One Sheet Podcast to discuss his preparation for the role.

Host Kyle Frotch asked Kerr whether he watched the first season or the anime series to get a sense of what Smoker is like before filming the show. Kerr explained that he watched the first season of the live-action series and then flicked through the anime scenes featuring Smoker, as the series has over 1,000 episodes.

After arriving in South Africa, he began watching the anime from the beginning. Now, he’s around 80 episodes in and admits that it will probably take him years to finish. This will be especially challenging since he has a baby with his partner, Lauren Stacy.

Kerr added that when his daughter is old enough, they can watch it together. Unfortunately, the live-action version is not really child-friendly due to its violence, so Kerr will have to wait a few years before showing it to his daughter.

The second season of One Piece began filming on July 1, 2024, and wrapped on December 15. The release date is still under discussion, as Netflix hinted at a release later this year in an article but later deleted the confirmation.

Most recently, Kerr appeared in the sixth season of the romantic drama series Virgin River as young Everett. In December, he joined the cast of the third season of the fantasy series The Wheel of Time as Galad Trakand, which premieres on March 13.
