d4vd Drops Withered – A Wholesome Goodbye to His Old Self

This album has been in the works for half a year since its announcement—and now, we finally get to see the full spectrum of d4vd.
Today, the Houston native dropped his much-anticipated debut album Withered, which d4vd considers the final chapter of the music style he’s been developing since the release of the Petals EP in 2023.
For some fans, this comes as surprising news. Dropping a debut album usually signals the beginning of a long journey within the sound an artist has been shaping.
Not for d4vd, though. In yesterday’s Grammy Awards article, David explained that this album is about saying goodbye:
“I wanted this to be the wave to this era.”
Withered—a 14-track exploration of love, loss, and growth—draws inspiration from a rose’s life cycle, from bloom to decay. The project took two years to create and carries deep personal meaning.
The album’s storytelling—blending alternative pop, rock, and R&B—is meant to unfold like a book charting the slow collapse of a relationship. But the process behind it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
After hitting a creative wall, d4vd scrapped an overly polished pop record, instead returning to his DIY roots—recording in his sister’s closet using BandLab, the same setup behind his earliest breakout songs.
Just like embracing the epic fail at Coachella when he attempted a backflip on stage, d4vd leans into the unpolished elements of his production—a conscious move away from sterile pop that comes through in Withered.
Calling Withered a “completion,” d4vd is already looking forward. He’s gearing up for a world tour running from August to November 2025, starting in California and wrapping up in Poland, with a hometown show in Houston on April 27 at White Oak Music Hall.
