'Bridgerton' Star Phoebe Dynevor Steps into 'The Housekeeper' with Big Names
Phoebe Dynevor joins Uma Thurman and Anthony Hopkins in ‘The Housekeeper,’ a fresh adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s ‘Rebecca.’
Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor is about to rub shoulders with the big leagues! She joins the cast of The Housekeeper, an adaptation of Rose Tremain’s short story, which fictionalizes the events surrounding the writing of Rebecca, a gothic novel by Daphne Du Maurier.
Dynevor stars alongside Uma Thurman and Anthony Hopkins, with Dynevor portraying the novelist Daphne Du Maurier. Thurman is set to play Danni, the housekeeper with whom Daphne has an affair, while Hopkins will play Lord DeWithers, the widowed owner of Manderville Hall, where the story unfolds.
Rebecca was previously adapted into an Oscar-winning film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1940 and again in 2020 by Ben Wheatley. However, the 2020 adaptation received negative reviews, primarily due to comparisons with Hitchcock’s version. This new adaptation takes a different approach, drawing from Tremain’s story, which aims to portray Mrs. Danvers in a more sympathetic light and offers a fresh take on a classic story.
Dynevor recently joined the cast of Inheritance, a spy thriller in which she plays Maya, a young woman who stumbles upon her father’s secret life as a spy and decides to pick up the family business. She also joined Zac Efron’s Famous, an A24 thriller that explores the downsides of celebrity.
With no release date yet, The Housekeeper is still in the early stages of production, but if all goes well, we can expect the movie by the end of 2025.
