Anna Sawai Surprises Fans as 'Monarch' Season 2 Wraps Filming After Months of Production

Anna Sawai wraps filming for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2! Fans await a release date as the cast returns with new faces.
Japanese actress Anna Sawai, who recently swept many awards for her role in the critically acclaimed series Shōgun, has more great news for us! This time, it’s about the show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters—specifically, season 2, which just wrapped filming!
The Cate Randa actress took to her Instagram story to share a black-and-white photo of herself holding an umbrella high above her head, captioned: “And that’s a wrap on Monarch S2!” It was about time—the filming took months to complete, having started in July 2024 and just wrapping up now.
With filming now complete, the big question is: when will we get to see the second season? With no official release date in sight, all we can do is wait for a teaser. The original cast is set to return, along with a new addition—Amber Midthunder, who joins in a recurring role as Isabel.
Recently, Sawai’s role in Monarch earned her a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series, though she ultimately lost to Cristin Milioti. She has also been rumored to star as Yoko Ono in Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopics.
