Rising star Aaron Pierre lands the role of John Stewart in HBO’s Lanterns, alongside Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan.

Rising English actor Aaron Pierre just snagged a new role! He was cast as John Stewart in the Green Lantern series titled Lanterns, Variety reports.

So far, it seems Pierre will star in the series alongside Kyle Chandler, who is set to play Hal Jordan. The official description of the show is that it “follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

Pierre beat a number of contenders for the role, including Stephan James and Damson Idris. HBO ordered 8 episodes of the series this July, but so far, no updates about the shooting have been announced.

This year, Pierre made quite a splash with Rebel Ridge, with some praising his performance to the extent of calling him the next James Bond. He also portrayed Malcolm X in the Genius: MLK/X series, joined the cast of The Morning Show, and his probably biggest film yet, Mufasa: The Lion King, where he lends his voice to Mufasa, is in post-production and set to release in cinemas on December 20, 2024. What a Christmas gift, right?
