Xolo Maridueña Has His Eyes on Nova in the MCU and Marvel Should Listen
Xolo Maridueña, DC’s Blue Beetle, is open to joining the MCU as Nova while juggling new roles in ‘Smurfs’ and ‘Killing Castro.’
American actor Xolo Maridueña, who played the titular character in the 2023 DC superhero film Blue Beetle, is ready to take on another role! This time, the actor was asked whether he would be interested in playing Nova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking to The Hashtag Show, Maridueña responded with great enthusiasm, saying it would be “great” and that he’s ready for “whatever work” comes his way. He then added that he’s willing to do “some pushups” if that’s what it takes to land a role in the MCU.
However, that doesn’t mean he’s leaving DC. Even though Blue Beetle was one of the last films released before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over and created the new DC Universe, Gunn himself confirmed that Maridueña will keep his role in the DCU.
The same can’t be said for Sasha Calle, who was replaced by Milly Alcock in the upcoming Supergirl movie, or Henry Cavill, who was replaced by David Corenswet in the upcoming Superman movie.
Maridueña is also set to lend his voice to one of the characters in the new Smurfs movie, scheduled for release on July 18, 2025. Additionally, he will star alongside Al Pacino and Diego Boneta in Killing Castro, a film based on true events.
