Emma Mackey steps into a villainous new role as Netflix’s ‘Narnia’ adaptation begins to take shape.

The Sex Education and Barbie star has been cast as the White Witch in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia, according to THR. The project marks a reunion for Mackey and Gerwig, who previously worked together on the blockbuster Barbie.

The film will reportedly center on The Magician’s Nephew, the sixth book in C.S. Lewis’s beloved fantasy series. Mackey’s character, Jadis — better known as the White Witch — is a major villain across the Narnia universe, notably in both The Magician’s Nephew and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

The Oscar-winner Meryl Streep is currently in talks to voice Aslan, the iconic lion and central figure of the Narnia saga.

Netflix plans a two-week theatrical IMAX release for the adaptation ahead of its streaming debut, aiming for late 2026.

Mackey has been building an impressive career over the past few years, earning British Independent Film Awards nominations for her lead performance in Emily. Alongside Narnia, she has a packed slate with upcoming roles in a J.J. Abrams project, Julia Ducournau’s Alpha, and James L. BrooksElla McCay.
