Kaitlyn Dever stars as scammer Belle Gibson in ‘Apple Cider Vinegar,’ a Netflix miniseries on fraud and social media’s dark side.

American actress Kaitlyn Dever is set to play the wellness guru scammer Belle Gibson in the upcoming miniseries Apple Cider Vinegar, and the first trailer is finally here!

Gibson launched the incredibly successful app The Whole Pantry in 2013, which focused on wellness tips and offered a plethora of recipes. The app quickly gained popularity, amassing 200,000 downloads in its first month, which led to Gibson securing a deal to write a cookbook.

The secret behind her success was her claim that she had survived multiple types of cancer thanks solely to natural medicine. However, as her fame grew, people began investigating her story and discovered that she never had cancer and was essentially a fraud.

It was also revealed that her pledge to donate $300,000 to charity was a lie. As a result, Gibson was fined $410,000, and her house was raided to recover the money.

Apple Cider Vinegar is inspired by Gibson’s story, with the series exploring her rise to fame and the dangers of unchecked social media influence. Netflix describes the series as a “true-ish story based on a lie.”

Joining Dever are Alycia Debnam-Carey, Ashley Zukerman, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Aisha Dee, Catherine McClements, and Susie Porter, among others. Directing all six episodes is Jeffrey Walker, known for the miniseries The Clearing and the fantasy comedy The Portable Door.

Dever is currently busy filming the comedy See You When I See You alongside Cooper Raiff, David Duchovny, and Hope Davis. One of her most anticipated roles yet, Abby in the second season of The Last of Us, is set to premiere in early 2025.

Apple Cider Vinegar does not have an official release date yet, but with the trailer teasing “SOON,” fans might not have to wait much longer. Fingers crossed!
