Taylor Russell in Talks for the Lead Role in Frank Ocean’s Long-Awaited Directorial Debut
Taylor Russell is in talks to lead Frank Ocean’s directorial debut, a project that’s been buzzing since 2022.
Canadian actress Taylor Russell is in talks to join Frank Ocean’s directorial debut, which has been talked about since 2022!
According to Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, the Bones and All actress will be the lead in Ocean’s first movie, a project he has been working on for a few years under A24’s production. While nothing is confirmed, Russell and Ocean seem like a good fit, and given that Sneider’s had some big scoops in the past, he might be right this time too.
While it might be a little frustrating for Ocean’s fans, who have been waiting for new music since 2020, when he dropped the singles Dear April and Cayendo, it’s good to know that he’s been working on something creative.
Some even speculate the movie could be a visual avant-garde experience similar to Endless. But the lack of new music could also be attributed to the loss of his 18-year-old brother, who died in a car crash in 2020, just a few months after Dear April and Cayendo.
Taylor Russell had the comedy-drama Mother, Couch with Ewan McGregor, Rhys Ifans, and Ellen Burstyn released a few months ago (to lukewarm reviews, unfortunately), and the sci-fi thriller Hope with Zo In-sung, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender is currently in post-production, headed for a 2025 release.
Russell is slowly making her mark among the big leagues, even getting praise from Rihanna, who said she would like Russell to play her in a biopic of her life—a pretty huge compliment!
Some of Frank Ocean’s fans are already joking that when Frank hears that news of Russell’s casting is out, he’ll immediately scrap the whole project, leaving his fans starving. Let’s hope that won’t be the case!
