The track teases her most experimental album yet, ahead of her 2025 Miss Possessive Tour.

Tate McRae is shifting gears with her new single Sports Car, a high-energy track produced by Ryan Tedder, Julia Michaels, and Grant Boutin. The song, which McRae describes as capturing “the adrenaline of love, sex, and the excitement of it all,” comes with a visually stunning video directed by Bardia Zeinali.

The fashion-forward video features McRae in 12 different high-fashion looks, from archival couture to modern pieces, including a cheetah-print Roberto Cavalli corset she had saved on Pinterest for years. “There was so much discomfort with this video. I wore wigs for the first time, which was a risk for me,” she told Vogue. She also danced in towering six-to-eight-inch platforms, which was a whole new challenge.

The video draws inspiration from early-2000s pop icons like Britney Spears and The Pussycat Dolls, blending performance with a concept centered on self-reflection and control. “In the end, you realize the viewer is actually me—watching myself. It’s about taking back control,” McRae explained.

Sports Car is part of her upcoming album So Close to What, out Feb. 21, which promises to be her most experimental work yet. She’ll hit the road in 2025 for the Miss Possessive Tour, with Zara Larsson and Benee joining as openers.
