Pouya Drops New Single 'Rot'

Miami’s rap GOAT is back with a gut-punching new single, Rot. Warning: the video is not for light-hearted spectators.

American rapper Pouya (Kevin Pouya)Pouya stays stronger than ever in his ability to deliver exceptional production and lyrics that turn our worlds upside down.

A classic boom-bap sound paired with modern-day poetry about the dangers of the drug life.

“I’m gettin’ sick of my ways, sit in my room and just suffer for daysI don’t remember the sun, the moon is the only one seeing my face
I know I’m going through things, wondering, when will I get out this phase?
Every day, runnin’ away from my grave, every day, stuck in a maze
Where do I go? How will I end up? When will the devil surrender?
I feel the weight on my shoulders, I’m back on a binge, yeah, I’m back on a bender
Starin’ out my window counting the raindrops as they fall
The clock is laughing at me as I lose myself, I feel my brain rot”

The rapper brings attention to those who haven’t seen the light in a long time, both literally and metaphorically. He talks about a society living in constant delirium, which rots their brains away.

He sympathizes with drug addicts, noting how hard it is to fight the “devil” and come out clean.

Pouya admits that when he was growing up, drugs were flowing all around his vicinity. He did sell drugs too after dropping out of school, so he knows the scene inside and out.

When it comes to his new music video, it paints a vivid image of what is happening to people with addiction. Their faces are covered in ugly lesions, and they’re lying around a dirty apartment with flies hovering over their heads.

Directed by Dill35mm, this video most certainly deserves an award as the most creative independent rapvideo production this month.
