Maika Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are set to lead the remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, the 1992 psychological thriller, Deadline reports.
The original The Hand That Rocks the Cradle tells the story of a pregnant wife whose husband is accused of sexual misconduct and subsequently kills himself. The wife suffers a miscarriage and then begins to pose as a nanny for the family of one of the accusers, slowly infiltrating their lives. What happens next? Well, you’ll have to see it for yourself.
The original movie was a huge success, earning $140 million against a budget of nearly $12 million, making it one of the most profitable films of 1992. The remake was announced with Maika Monroe starring and Michelle Garza Cervera directing. Cervera is a Mexican film director whose directorial debut, Huesera: The Bone Woman, won the Best New Narrative Director and Nora Ephron awards at the Tribeca Festival.
Monroe recently made quite a splash with the horror film Longlegs, co-starring Nicolas Cage, receiving praise from critics and fans alike. She’s also working on In Cold Light with Troy Kotsur, as well as the sequel to the 2014 horror movie It Follows, titled They Follow.
The year 2025 is shaping up to be a busy one for Maika! Keep up the great work!
