The Summer I Turned Pretty actress Lola Tung and Monsters and Grotesquerie actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez are joining the cast of the long-anticipated sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer, Deadline reports.
Along with Tung and Chavez, Austin Nichols from One Tree Hill and The Walking Dead is joining the cast, as well as American model and musician Gabbriette, who is set to make her feature film debut in this project.
Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, Chase Sui Wonders and Billy Campbell were previously announced, and it was revealed that the movie will continue the story from the second film.
Earlier this year, original film star Freddie Prinze Jr. officially joined the cast to reprise his role as Ray Bronson. There’s still speculation about Jennifer Love Hewitt returning as Julie James, but no confirmation yet. The only thing we know is that she would be open to reprising the role.
I Know What You Did Last Summer follows a group of teenagers who accidentally hit and seemingly kill a man, whose body they dump in the sea. Afraid of the consequences, they make a pact to keep the whole thing a secret. One year later, they start receiving messages from someone who knows their dark secret.
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer takes place one year after the events of the first film and follows Julie (Hewitt), who wins a trip to the Bahamas with her friends. The vacation quickly turns into a nightmare when they are targeted by a killer.
Despite some criticisms, the first movie was a hit, making $125 million on a budget of $17 million. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the sequel, which made $40 million on a budget between $24 and $65 million. There was also a third movie in 2006 with a new cast, but the upcoming film will be a direct sequel to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
Lola Tung’s acting career started recently, with her debut in 2022 as the lead character, Belly Conklin, on The Summer I Turned Pretty. The series was so successful that Amazon Prime renewed it for a second and third season. This February, she made her Broadway debut as Eurydice in Hadestown, co-starring with Jordan Fisher as Orpheus. This role earned her her first nomination for Favorite Replacement for the 2024 Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards.
Nicholas Alexander Chavez is fresh off two big roles this year. First, he portrayed Lyle Menendez in the Monsters series, and more recently, he starred in Grotesquerie, where he plays Father Charlie Mayhew. Chavez excelled in both shows, with Monsters debuting at No. 1 on Netflix worldwide and Grotesquerie premiering at No. 1 on Hulu.
