Kelsea Ballerini Breaks Down Her Social Media Detox

In a new People interview, Kelsea Ballerini revealed why she stepped away from Twitter and Reddit, and how she navigates Instagram and TikTok with caution.
Kelsea Ballerini has officially ditched social media platforms X and Reddit, opening up to People magazine about their negative impact on her mental health in a cover story interview. In her candid conversation, the 31-year-old country-pop star bluntly stated, “Twitter kicked my ass,” echoing a line from her 2022 song Doin’ My Best where she declared, “And Twitter kicked my ass, now it’s one less app on my iPhone.” Reddit wasn’t much better, becoming especially toxic during what she described as “when my life was a bit chaotic.” Eventually, Ballerini drew firm boundaries and left both platforms behind, saying, “We need to have some boundaries.”
Despite distancing herself from these platforms, Ballerini still maintains a strong presence on Instagram and TikTok, which she says are essential for connecting with fans and shaping her creative decisions. “I really just keep up with TikTok and Instagram, and even that feels like too much, but I’m not sure how to not because I’m a people pleaser, and I like the feedback,” she explained. She specifically uses viewer feedback to refine her live setlists and make adjustments during her ongoing Kelsea Ballerini Live On Tour 2025, her first-ever headlining arena tour, set to conclude on April 13 in Toronto. Yet even on these platforms, she admitted, negative comments can still affect her: “I’m a girl. I’m sensitive. I’m an artist. If I see a mean comment, it affects me.”
Ballerini continues thriving professionally, releasing a deluxe version of her critically acclaimed fifth studio album Patterns on March 7, 2025, which expands the October 2024 record with five additional tracks including To the Men That Love Women After Heartbreak, Future Tripping, Put It To Bed, Cut Me Up, and Hindsight Is Happiness. The original album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Albums Chart and No. 4 on the Billboard 200, and was co-produced by Ballerini alongside Alysa Vanderheym, with an all-female writing team including Jessie Jo Dillon, Karen Fairchild, and Hillary Lindsey.
She’s also serving as the face of COVERGIRL and Pantene, with the latter partnership including a 12-week challenge where she’ll exclusively use Pantene products and document her hair transformation on social media. Additionally, Ballerini is making her debut as a full-time coach on Season 27 of NBC’s The Voice, where she previously served as a mentor and temporary replacement for Kelly Clarkson.
