Kaitlyn Dever opens up about filming Abby’s hardest scene in ‘The Last of Us’ just days after losing her own mother.

Kaitlyn Dever plays Abby in the second season of The Last of Us, and recently, she talked about how hard it was to film one of the show’s toughest moments. Abby’s story is all about her dad dying and her wanting to get back at Joel, who’s played by Pedro Pascal.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Dever shared it was super hard for Kaitlyn to film the scene where Abby faces Joel because it happened only three days after her own mom’s funeral. Kaitlyn’s mom, Kathy, had been fighting cancer, so filming that intense scene felt really personal for her. Even though she was going through a lot, Kaitlyn said that the people who made the show really supported her while they were filming.

Even though Abby’s actions in the story are tough and might make some viewers upset, Kaitlyn really wanted to show the human side of her character. She hopes that people watching can understand why Abby does what she does, even if they don’t agree with it.

You can watch the first two episodes of The Last of Us season 2 on HBO right now, and the third episode comes out on April 27th.
