The second season of The Last of Us recently had a panel at the 2025 South by Southwest Film Festival, where a full trailer was revealed, offering a brief but previously unseen look at
Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby.
Not only do we see Dever in the role of the controversial Abby, but we also get a new look at her squad, consisting of
Danny Ramirez as Manny,
Tati Gabrielle as Nora,
Ariela Barer as Mel, and Spencer Lord as Owen.
The trailer also features a scene where
Bella Ramsey’s Ellie and
Isabela Merced’s Dina share a kiss—a plotline fans of the second game will remember. However, it’s not Ellie’s first kiss, as she previously kissed Riley (played by
Storm Reid) in the seventh episode of the show’s first season.
Speaking to ScreenRant at SXSW 2025, Kaitlyn Dever addressed whether she pays attention to fans’ expectations about portraying a character as controversial as Abby, replying:
“Well, it’s hard not to see those things on the internet. It’s difficult to stop myself from looking at it every once in a while, especially going into this role. I want to do this character justice and make the fans proud by bringing her to life in this way.”
Dever is aware she’s portraying a divisive character, but she’s determined to give her best, adding that she mainly focuses on collaborating closely with the series’ creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin to capture Abby’s true essence—her “emotional state, her anger and her frustration and her grief, and all of that.”
The second season premieres on April 13, 2025, while the third season is currently in development.
