First look at ‘Weapons’ reveals Julia Garner in Zach Cregger’s new horror movie, hitting theaters in August 2025.

American actress Julia Garner is back with another horror film — and this time, she’s joining Zach Cregger’s new mysterious project and we have the very first look at Garner in her latest role.

According to Entertainment Weekly, The Ozark and Barbarian star leads Weapons, a new horror movie from Zach Cregger, the director behind 2022’s surprise hit Barbarian. The story kicks off when 17 kids from a small Pennsylvania town all disappear at exactly 2:17 a.m. on the same night — but that’s just the beginning.

Garner plays Justine Gandy, a teacher who shows up at school one morning to find almost her entire class missing. Josh Brolin plays a dad who’s convinced there’s something off about it all. Alden Ehrenreich, Actor Austin Abrams at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, Harald Krichel Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan also show up in the movie.

Garner kicked off 2025 with the horror film Wolf Man with Christopher Abbott, and she will also star in Fantastic Four: The First Steps as the Silver Surfer, which will mark her debut as a superhero as well as her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Cregger says Weapons gets way crazier after the first half — and promises it’s even bigger and weirder than Barbarian. He calls it a “horror epic,” and says he took inspiration from movies like Magnolia.

Weapons hits theaters on August 8, 2025.
