Josh O'Connor Rumored for Marvel Role—Could He Be the Next Spider-Man?
British actor Josh O’Connor is rumored to join the MCU, potentially as Spider-Man or MJ’s new love interest in the next film.
There’s a new rumor surrounding British actor Josh O’Connor and his potential involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to scooper @MyTimeToShineHello, he’s reportedly in talks to become the next Spider-Man after Tom Holland.
The scooper shared this rumor in response to a tweet suggesting that O’Connor is being considered to play Paul, MJ’s new love interest, in the next Spider-Man movie. People in the comments are skeptical, with some pointing out that O’Connor might be too old to play Peter Parker. That’s a fair observation, as Holland is 28, while O’Connor is 34.
Another fan noted that Holland recently signed a multi-film deal to continue portraying the web-slinging superhero. It’s also worth mentioning that Holland is confirmed to appear as Spider-Man in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which he will film alongside Christopher Nolan’s next project.
While it’s an intriguing rumor that O’Connor might play Spider-Man, the role of MJ’s love interest, Paul, seems more plausible. Considering the fourth Spider-Man film is expected to be part of the final phase of the Multiverse Saga, it would make sense for Holland to complete the saga as Spidey.
The fourth Spider-Man movie is planned to be released between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, though no official release dates have been announced yet.
This year, O’Connor starred in Challengers alongside Zendaya and joined the cast of Steven Spielberg’s upcoming UFO blockbuster with Emily Blunt. He is currently busy filming The Mastermind with John Magaro and Alana Haim. Additionally, he has two movies in post-production: the Knives Out sequel Wake Up Dead Man and the historical romantic drama The History of Sound with Paul Mescal.
