Anna Sawai wins Golden Globe for ‘Shogun’ and shares her triumph on Jimmy Kimmel Live celebrating a historic 44-year legacy.

Japanese actress Anna Sawai, who recently won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Television Series for her role in Shōgun, is opening up about the victory.

The Lady Mariko actress went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and showed off the award while revealing that someone took it away from her at the ceremony. Although that person was polite enough to ask, she had no idea who he was; all she knew was that he wanted a photo with the award.

Sawai won the Golden Globe during the Sunday ceremony, beating Emma D’Arcy, Maya Erskine, Keira Knightley, Keri Russell, and Kathy Bates, who ripped up her acceptance speech upon hearing that she didn’t win the award.

Shōgun was a major success at this year’s Golden Globes, winning four awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series for Hiroyuki Sanada, Best Actress for Sawai, and Best Supporting Actor for Tadanobu Asano.

Sawai’s Golden Globe win for Shōgun comes 44 years after Yoko Shimada won the same award for playing the same character in the 1980 series Shōgun.
