This weekend’s Hot 97 Summer Jam belonged to Doja Cat and her iconic surprise guests. During her “Doja Cat and Friends” set at the 30th annual hip-hop festival, the Grammy winner thrilled fans by bringing out rap legend Busta Rhymes. The two traded verses on Busta’s classics like “Ante Up” and his “Look at Me Now” feature.
Mutual admiration has been expressed by Busta Rhymes and Doja Cat, with Doja acknowledging her upbringing influenced by Busta’s music in a 2022 ELLE cover story, and referring to the rap veteran as a “pioneer” during a 2023 Hot Ones interview. But Busta wasn’t the only surprise - Gunna joined for “fukumean” and A$AP Ferg previewed a new single before performing “Plain Jane.”
Kicking off with “Demons” and closing with “Paint the Town Red,” Doja’s powerful set celebrated her rise from an underground rap fan to an A-list performer sharing the stage with her idols.
