The French festival will honor the creators of “The Boy and the Heron” and other animated films that are loved and admired worldwide.

During the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, taking place from May 14 to 25, 2024, the Japanese Studio Ghibli will be awarded the Honorary Palme d’Or. This is the first time in the festival’s history that this award will be given to a collective rather than an individual. The animation studio Ghibli was founded in 1985, with the renowned filmmaker and animator Hayao Miyazaki contributing to its establishment, along with the current studio director and producer, Toshio Suzuki, whoexpressed his gratitude for the honor.

Ghibli Studio has produced a series of now legendary animated films such as “My Neighbor Totoro” (1988), “Princess Mononoke” (1997), “Spirited Away” (2001), and the latest film “The Boy and the Heron” (2023), which was awarded an Oscar. This significant award will surely support the studio in its work, which is recognized by experts and loved by fans all around the world.
