Emerging Mexican actress Melissa Barrera is set to lead a new western thriller, In the Cradle of Granite, Deadline reports.
In the Cradle of Granite will mark the English-language debut of Ariel Escalante, known for his work on films such as Domingo and the Mist and The Sound of Things.
The plot, based on Jay Holmes’ screenplay, follows a young mother struggling to feed her family. Her life is turned upside down when she discovers the body of a wanted criminal on her property. She strikes a deal with the bounty hunter who killed him and sets out in search of bigger rewards to secure her family’s future.
Melissa Barrera’s latest film, the horror romantic comedy Your Monster, was recently released in the United States, and critics are loving her performance, praising her ability to light up every scene. Tommy Dewey, who played the Monster, was also praised for his chemistry with Barrera and their strong on-screen connection.
Prior to the film’s release, Melissa released a song she recorded for the movie, setting the mood for what’s to come.
Her upcoming projects include The Collaboration with Paul Bettany and Jeremy Pope, a biopic about Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. She also recently starred in the horror film Abigail with Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens, and Kathryn Newton.
Additionally, she is currently filming Copenhagen, a sci-fi spy thriller TV series where she stars alongside Simu Liu, co-produced by James Wan, the co-creator of Saw and Insidious franchises, as well as the creator of The Conjuring.
