Cordae Performs at Tiny Desk Concert with His Mom—And Her Voice is Stunning!
Probably one of the sweetest gestures in the online music world this week—hip-hop rising star Cordae brought his mom to his Tiny Desk Concert.
Cordae started off by talking about the single 06 Dreamin’, which he was about to perform. The track was inspired by his mom’s earlier drafts from when he was a kid.
His mom was his biggest inspiration, and although she didn’t make it as an artist, he continued her legacy through his own music.
Little did we know—his mom is actually a stellar singer. Instead of using samples, he called her up, and she began singing along.
She didn’t have a lot of vocals in the song, but those small moments showcased her impressive vocal range.
Could this be the beginning of her singing career? We can definitely imagine her on background vocals for just about any R&B track.
Cordae was also sweet enough to apologize to his mom in advance for cussing in the song, which she was totally okay with.
“This is a hometown show, so I’m expecting tons of love!” he said. Backed by a tight crew of D.C.-area musicians and singers in vintage graphic tees honoring his influences, Cordae’s meticulous style shone through.
