Mikey Madison shares her struggles filming ‘Scream’, including fainting in the Ghostface robe and performing intense stunts.

The Scream actress Mikey Madison, who played Amber Freeman (revealed as the Ghostface killer in the film), struggled with the Ghostface robe so much that she fainted!

During a recent episode of Collider Ladies Night, Madison shared how exhausting one particularly hot day of shooting was for her while wearing the killer costume.

“The costume, it’s all black, and I had multiple layers of clothing on under it. It just seals in all the warmth. I was jumping up and down, hyperventilating, trying to get some frenetic energy inside of me, in my torso, and I was like: ‘I don’t feel good.’ Then I walked over to a tent and fainted.”

The crew’s immediate reaction was to pause filming for a while until Madison was able to recover and resume acting.

Madison showed real commitment to her role, performing many of her own stunts, including her character’s violent death scene. For that scene, she had to practice how her head would move after being shot—an intricate move that takes some effort to master.

Following the success of Scream, Madison starred as River in the 2023 action flick All Souls, and this year, she gained even more attention as the lead in the romantic comedy Anora with Mark Eydelshteyn.

Anora premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Palme d’Or. The film became both a box office and critical success, with praise for Madison’s performance and Sean Baker’s direction and writing. Madison’s role in the film earned her several award nominations for her breakthrough performance.
