Phoebe Dynevor’s 'Inheritance' Role Almost Got Her Arrested by NYPD

Phoebe Dynevor is taking her role in the upcoming spy thriller Inheritance very seriously. In fact, she’s staying in character so seriously that it nearly got her arrested!

While filming a scene in the thick crowd of Times Square in New York City, Dynevor was chugging tequila, smoking cigarettes, and started getting weird looks from the people passing by. One mother was so shocked that she had to pull her daughter away from Dynevor.

At one point, which was actually the first day of shooting, Dynevor was in character with a bottle in her hand, and suddenly, three NYPD officers surrounded her, asking her what she was doing. Director Neil Burger described the situation in his latest interview with The Direct:

“They were like, ‘What are you doing?’ She’s like, ‘What does it look like I’m doing? Drinking tequila.’ And they’re like, ‘Why are you drinking tequila?’ And she’s like, ‘Because I like tequila. You want some?’ And they’re like, ‘No, we don’t want some.’ They’re like, ‘Give me that bottle.’ And she was like, ‘I’m not finished with it.’ She just stayed in character, and then, at a certain point, I had to step in. And I was like, ‘We’re making a movie.’ Because they were right on the verge of arresting her, I let it go as far as I could. I walked up, I said, ‘We’re making a movie. She’s an actress.’ And they were like, ‘Why didn’t she just say so?’ And I said, ‘Because she’s staying in character.’ They were like, ‘Ah, God.’”

Inheritance follows a young woman named Maya (played by Dynevor) who discovers her father’s secret spy life, leading her to become entangled in an international conspiracy. Besides Dynevor, the movie features Rhys Ifans, Ciara Baxendale, and Kersti Bryan, among others.
