As of now, Warner Bros. Discovery has not officially announced the full cast for the upcoming Harry Potter series. However, here’s what we know from recent updates.

Variety reports that 32,000 children have auditioned for the series’ main roles, including Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.

The casting team is currently reviewing between 500 and 1,000 audition tapes daily, ensuring that every submission is considered.

Director Mark Mylod has stated that the next stage involves “workshopping” with shortlisted candidates in January 2024, but no final decisions have been made yet.

One of the most intriguing casting choices revolves around the role of Severus Snape, with Paapa Essiedu rumored to take on the part. In the series, Snape will be portrayed during his 30s, offering a deeper look into the life of the complex wizard at a pivotal age.

Paapa Essiedu is an up-and-coming British actor, known for his performances in theater and television, including his roles in Hamlet and King Lear at the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he was the first Black actor to portray Hamlet.

His role in the HBO miniseries I May Destroy You earned him nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and a BAFTA Television Award, and he won Best Ensemble at the Independent Spirit Awards for the same series.
