Ncuti Gatwa teases a possible ‘Doctor Who’ return after revealing he never got to face Daleks or Cybermen on screen.

Rwandan-Scottish actor Ncuti GatwaNcuti Gatwa has sparked fresh speculation about a possible return to Doctor Who just months after his exit from the series in May 2025. Speaking on The One Show, the actor revealed he never got to battle the Daleks or Cybermen—two of the franchise’s most iconic villains—calling it “the crux of Doctor Who.” With a grin, he added, “Might go fight a Dalek,” prompting fans online to wonder if he’s hinting at a comeback.

Gatwa, 32, played the Fifteenth Doctor for two series before regenerating in the season finale, where Doctor Who alum Billie Piper made a surprise appearance. In a recent BBC interview, he explained that the role had taken a toll on him mentally and physically and said it was “time” to move on—though he added, “Never say never” when asked about returning.

Gatwa is one of only two Doctors never to face a Dalek on screen, alongside Paul McGann.
