Meet Federico Cina. The Rising Star Designer We're Really Excited For This MFW
Despite initial ambitions to break away from his origins, Cina ultimately felt a magnetic pull to return to Romagna, where he aims to infuse his designs with the romantic and refined essence of his culture.
Italian fashion designer Federico Cina established his eponymous brand in 2019, inspired by his origins and the nostalgic atmosphere they invoke.
His debut collection, Romagna Mia, showcased at AltaRoma (the fashion runway show for emerging Made-in-Italy talents and independent designers), reflected a heartfelt homage to his roots, earning him the prestigious Who’s on Next competition award and the Franca Sozzani Award that same year.
His trajectory continued to rise, with a finalist position for the LVMH Prize in 2021 and a successful runway show during Milan Fashion Week the following year, featuring the collection Ball’Era 77.
At the core of the brand are values that emphasize humanity, craftsmanship, and sustainability. Sustainability, for Cina, transcends mere eco-friendly materials; it encompasses the development of the Romagna ecosystem and fostering opportunities within the local community.
A distinctive feature of Cina’s work is the “Grape,” inspired by traditional Romagnola prints, which embodies peasant culture and ancient artisan techniques.
Collaborating with the Marchi print shop, which has preserved this craft since the 17th century, Cina elevates these prints into luxurious fashion statements.
Federico Cina will be presenting at the MFW on Friday, Jan 17.
