How 'Monsters' Made Nicholas Alexander Chavez Sympathize With Bald People
Nicholas Alexander Chavez reveals his newfound sympathy for bald people after wearing a bald cap for ‘Monsters.’
The Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story star Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who played Lyle in the series, recently spoke to ELLE about the bald scenes he had to perform for the show.
When asked, “What was your initial reaction to seeing yourself bald?” he responded:
“It was so concerning, honestly. It made me realize that I never, ever want to lose my hair, and now I have more sympathy for bald people.”
However, he also admitted there were upsides, saying it looked cool and even comparing himself to Agent 47 from the Hitman video games.
Later in the interview, Chavez revealed that he almost crashed Lyle’s Alfa Romeo while filming the show. When the producers told him to be more careful, Chavez defended himself by saying he was simply too immersed in the character. Happens, right?
Earlier in the video, he confessed to taking a vintage Versace jacket as a souvenir from the show. That makes sense, considering he also mentioned that his fashion sense shifted slightly after working on the series, thanks to the excellent stylist he worked with.
And he picked up some valuable advice along the way! When asked which Monsters co-star gave him the best guidance, he shared that Javier Bardem told him, “You never really stop being a student of the craft.”
In the series, Chavez portrays Lyle Menendez, whose on-screen mother rips off his hairpiece during a heated argument. This revelation shocked viewers who weren’t aware that Lyle had been wearing a hairpiece since he was young due to early hair loss.
But no worries—Chavez didn’t actually shave his head for the role! The bald scenes were achieved with a bald cap.
