The wait is finally over, and the third season of the beloved queer series Heartstopper is almost here! After a year-long wait, Kit Connor and Joe Locke are coming back to your screens, and with the start of autumn, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
The end of Season 2 saw Charlie typing a text to Nick, saying those three magical words: “I love you,” with his finger hovering over the send button before the scene cuts. It remains unknown whether he sent that message or not, but we are sure to find out soon enough.
There are so many questions to be answered. Will Elle and Tao be able to maintain their long-distance relationship? It’s undoubtedly going to be challenging for both of them, with Elle now attending art school and meeting new people.
Will Nick fully come out to everyone? It seems like he wants to, but it’s a huge decision, and he’s afraid of the reactions of others. He has only told his mom and a few close friends.
Charlie is afraid to open up to his family about his mental health, unsure he would have their support. The anxiety and eating disorder are taking a heavy toll on him, but Nick is there to support him emotionally.
What we do know, however, is that the first episode of Season 3 will open with Tori as the initial character, shifting focus from Nick and Charlie, who were usually the first on screen. Series creator Alice Oseman described this as a “curveball” in an interview with Netflix, and by making this choice, she highlights how important Tori’s character is since she plays a crucial role in supporting Charlie. The season will also focus more on the brother-sister dynamics between Tori and Charlie, a theme that was previously only touched on.

The third season promises to tackle more mature subjects such as mental health, the significance of saying “I love you,” and the blossoming relationship of Charlie and Nick.
