For FW25, fashion designer Elena Velez showcased her most ambitious collection yet, titled “LEECH” at the New York Fashion Week.

Since her debut in 2018, Elena Velez has developed a narrative around a folkloric female figure, which has evolved further through her YR collection series since 2021.

With YR:006, the designer takes her storytelling to new heights, exploring the dualities of her muse—an enigmatic figure that reflects both aspiration and shadow.

The runway show, held at Chelsea’s ARTECHOUSE, transformed the venue into a mythical “maritime abyss,” enhancing the immersive experience with dark lighting and visuals of rocky waters, creating a captivating atmosphere for the audience.

The collection delved into themes of antiheroism, as the designer articulated prior to the show. Models in the show, including Anna Delvey or Rico Nasty, sported bold smokey makeup and striking hairstyles, enhancing the collection’s dramatic accent.

Rather than walking the runway, the models adopted a more performative approach, crawling and slithering through the space, creating a very connection with the audience.

Other models engaged with attendees by maintaining intense eye contact while lunging toward the spectators.
