David Corenswet Asked Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin for 'Superman' Advice

David Corenswet got support from Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin before taking on the role of Superman in the 2025 reboot.
David Corenswet is stepping into the iconic role of Superman in the upcoming DC reboot, hitting theaters July 11, 2025. Ahead of filming, the 31-year-old actor reached out to two former Supermen—
Tyler Hoechlin and
Henry Cavill—by letter. While neither gave direct advice, Corenswet says their words of encouragement meant a lot. “You have to do your own thing,” he told PEOPLE at the film’s London premiere on July 2. “But it was really wonderful to get support and to thank them for how they carried the role.”
Corenswet also mentioned receiving encouragement from Will Reeve, son of the late Christopher Reeve, who played Superman in four films starting in 1978. Will appears in a cameo in the new movie and was reportedly excited about the project. That support, Corenswet said, helped him feel more confident taking on such a well-known character. “It was a special experience,” he shared.
