Combster's NYFW Designer Spotlight: Wiederhoeft
Wiederhoeft is a captivating design house that blends the worlds of fashion and performance, creating a story that unfolds like an immersive play.
Founded in 2019 by Jackson Wiederhoeft, the brand draws inspiration from theatre, dance, and the enchantment of live performance, embodying a sense of modern nostalgia.
Through highly contextual and often archetypal imagery, Wiederhoeft deconstructs traditional elements of fashion and reconstructs them in imaginative new contexts, inviting audiences to explore the intersections of art and clothing.
The designer, who graduated from Parsons School of Design, gained significant recognition early in their career, winning Women’s Designer of the Year in 2016 for their thesis collection, “The Dollies.”
After honing their craft at Thom Browne, where they focused on women’s runway collections, Wiederhoeft launched their debut collection, “Spooky Couture,” in October 2019. This collection was presented in a theatrical format, setting the stage for a unique blend of storytelling and fashion.
Each subsequent collection continues to explore this narrative approach. “The Music Box” featured models adorned with faerie wings and tutu skirts, while the first bridal collection released in 2020 redirected attention to detail and storytelling within a romantic context, challenging traditional bridal norms.
By 2021, the “Wiederhoeft Academy of Magical and Performing Arts” collection contextualized the brand’s fantasy for everyday wear, showcasing its versatility and imaginative spirit.
Every piece from Wiederhoeft comes with its own character, creating a fairytale-esque universe that celebrates the interplay between fashion and live performance.
Wiederhoeft will be presenting at the NYFW on Tuesday, September 10.
