American actor, musician, and filmmaker Alex Wolff is teasing his sophomore feature film, the psychological thriller If She Burns. Wolff recently talked to Deadline about the film and his other upcoming projects.
Alex Wolff himself stars in the movie alongside Asa Butterfield, Victoria Pedretti, and Justice Smith. The script also comes from Alex’s pen, indicating his strong attachment to the project.
The official description of If She Burns is as follows:
“A spirited young woman (Pedretti) travels to Italy with her dysfunctional family after a terrible accident. She begins an affair with her neighbor (Wolff), but soon, tensions arise within her family as a series of mysterious wildfires puts everyone in danger.”
If She Burns is Alex Wolff’s second project that he writes, directs, and stars in, following The Cat and the Moon, a 2019 coming-of-age drama co-starring Mike Epps.
When discussing If She Burns, Wolff described it as “a dark but also warm and emotional thriller.” He then opened up about his inspirations behind the project:
“One of my favorite genres, which you don’t see too often, is a movie that moves propulsively but is also emotional, fragile, and vulnerable. I was very inspired by films like Through a Glass Darkly, and there are elements here of My Night at Maud’s and L’Avventura.”
Earlier this year, Wolff starred in A Quiet Place: Day One as Reuben, alongside Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn. The previous year, he portrayed Luis Walter Alvarez in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, starred as Tom Backster in The Line, and appeared as Mark in A Good Person.
