Despite the staggering success of the iconic doll-inspired movie, which grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide and propelled director Greta Gerwig to become the first solo female director of a billion-dollar film, Margot Robbie’s acting performance did not receive recognition in the form of an Oscar nomination. However, her role as a producer in the film ‘Barbie’ did not go unnoticed, earning her acknowledgment in the best picture category.
Speaking at a special SAG-AFTRA screening, Robbie told Deadline, “We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact.” Later, she added, “And it’s already done that, and some, way more than we ever dreamed it would. And that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.”
