Lil Nas X Returns with "J. Christ", His Bold Leap into Solo Directing
Lil Nas X has made a comeback with his new song “J. Christ”, accompanied by a provocative music video that marks his solo directorial debut.
Lil Nas X has unveiled his latest single, “J. Christ”, marking not just a musical comeback but also his debut as a solo director. This release breaks a two-year silence, showcasing a blend of audacious creativity and innovative storytelling.
The music video for “J. Christ” is a visual spectacle, where Lil Nas X confronts the devil in a high-stakes basketball game, and is seen steering an ark through a global flood, a scene rich in biblical allegory and cinematic grandeur.
Prior to the release, Lil Nas X engaged audiences with a unique promotional strategy, including a TikTok video featuring him consuming communion wafers and wine, or a reportedly false claim that he would attend the conservative Liberty University for Biblical studies. Christian rapper Bryson Gray spoke against Lil Nas X’s new venture, calling him a “gay demon” and his label “satanic.”
