"Singer and actress Halle Bailey, who also appeared in films such as “The Color Purple” (2023) and “Last Holiday” (2006), celebrated the first anniversary of the movie “The Little Mermaid.”

The singer and actress Halle Bailey (born 2000) took to Instagram to commemorate the first anniversary of the release of “The Little Mermaid” (2023), directed by Rob Marshall, in which she played Ariel, the mermaid who falls in love with Prince Eric. Prince was originally supposed to be played by Harry Styles, but he declined, so Jonah Hauer-King became the choice instead.

The film is an adaptation of the animated classic from 1989, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s 1837 fairy tale. The role, which Halle Bailey landed after the director heard her sing “Where Is the Love” at the 2019 Grammys, was also pursued by actresses Maya Hawke and Lindsay Lohan.
