A Prop from the Movie 'Titanic' Reigned Supreme at the Auction
The famous doors from the legendary Titanic overshadowed Indy’s whip and other famous items used in shooting famous movies.
The door (or more precisely, part of the door frame) on which Rose DeWitt Bukater (portrayed by actress Kate Winslet) was saved from the sinking Titanic in the 1997 film of the same name directed by James Cameron was auctioned for $718,750. The amount that the new owner paid for it at the Heritage Auctions’ Treasures from Planet Hollywood even surpassed the sums for other iconic props that were also offered here.
According to The Guardian, these included the whip from the film “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984) which sold for $525,000, and the chalice representing the Holy Grail from the film “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” (1989), which fetched $87,500. Also appearing here was the ax Jack Nicholson used in “The Shining” (1980), which sold for $125,000.
